Capitalist ghouls

Tricking people to buy treats

Selling Halloween

Trees trimmed lights twinkle

Eyes transfixed on shiny gifts

Thieves lurk 'neath tinsel

All palms are empty

To learn we must live in debt

The young made to pay

Moulding our nation

Minds to engage and enthral

Knowledge is not free

You charge us to learn

You then tax all that we earn

In Hell You should burn

You sneer at our grime

While you stand tall on our backs

A nation held down

How can you face us

Your lies still ring in our ears

You squandered our trust

Children are hungry

Fear and despair in their eyes

Unwell on Welfare

Every penny

Kept safe for a rainy day

Cannot stem the tide

No shelter to find

For the people of the street

Winter leers at them

Not a downward glance

From their ivory towers

Fat Cats rule the world

Britain is dying

Industry and assets sold

Demon Baroness

The true cost of blue

Our independence and pride

Nothing to Conserve

Money and Power

International players

Global game of shame

Leaders of the world

Corrupt dealings in shadows

False democracy

Cannot make ends meet

Robbing Peter to pay Paul

Oppressive regime

Money spent on arms

Many dying and starving

Feed people not war

Anger frustration

Burning our streets and cities

We must douse the flames

David Cameron

Do you see how we suffer?

Reach down and save us

We stretch out our hands

We are not begging for scraps

Pull us from darkness

Stop now the killing

Innocent people dying

Our world longs for Peace

Blood stained pyramids

People will no longer bear

Greed and corruption

They aim for terror

But people pull together

In strength we unite

Hearts filled with sadness

Yet still beating strong and true

The city of love

Climate Change

I composed these Haikus as a commission from Professor Hovhanness I. Pilikian, who was inspired (and inspired me!) by a series of classically beautiful and profoundly meaningful sculptures created by Isaac Cordal on the global issue of Climate Change.

Isaac Cordal is a Spanish artist who works with photography and sculpture, generally in the context of the urban environment.

Billowing black smoke

Causing angels' eyes to weep

Poisoning Heaven

What future for Earth

Solar rays barren death fields

Eternal Summer

We have raped the Earth

Assaulted Mother Nature

We'll drown in her tears

Too late to discuss

The truth of Global Warming

We are drowning now

Industry worshipped

In our vast dark factories

Today's cathedrals

Oligarchs of death

Destroying God's creation

Your greed will drown us

Wading in to work

With your briefcase full of lies

It can't save US now

Industry to blame

Years of burning fossil fuels

Mining our own deaths

Blind to climate change

Denying Global Warming

Waist deep in water

Witch-hunts are pointless

No nation is more at fault

We must all unite

Too late for meetings

More Global Warming summits

The tides are rising

What of your children

Beware of your legacy

Killing their future

Wake up and listen

Earth's resources are finite

Apathy can kill

People must unite

Stop the wave of destruction

And turn back the tide
